What is Mineral Makeup?

Mineral Foundation

Mineral Makeup is makeup in the form a loose powder, which constitutes of crushed minerals like Titanium dioxide, Zinc oxide,  Mica etc. But the truth is that, these minerals are actually listed even in the regular makeup and sunscreens. Then..

What’s the Difference Between Mineral Makeup and Regular Makeup?

The major difference between Mineral Makeup and Regular Makeup is the lack of preservatives, fragrances, parabens and chemical dyes. For instance, in liquid foundation preservatives are a must due to the presence of water content whereas Mineral Makeup doesn’t need preservatives due to the powdery texture.

Do I need Mineral Makeup?

Mineral makeup eliminates ingredients that are likely to cause reaction in sensitive skin. For this reason Mineral Makeup is often suggested to people with Sensitive Skin. If you have normal skin and never had any reactions with regular makeup then you can happily continue using regular makeup from your favorite brands. Other than that one should switch to Mineral Makeup for the following reasons

Mineral Blush

  • The high amount of Titanium dioxide and Zinc Oxide offers sun protection effectively.
  • Mineral Makeup is usually light weight and provides a more natural finish.
  • It doesn’t clog pores.
  • If you are a beginner to makeup then Mineral Makeup will be a good choice.
  • If you have sensitive skin.
  • If you prefer light coverage to heavy coverage.

Mineral Foundation Coverage

  • Mineral Makeup doesn’t provide good coverage. So, if your purpose of using makeup is to cover any imperfections then it’s better not to go for mineral makeup.
  • If you have oily skin, the powder absorbs the oils causing skin discolorations at the T-zone.

How to Use Mineral Makeup?

Mineral Makeup Blush

One need to use brushes particularly fluffy brushes to buff in the Mineral Makeup.

Foundation: Pick up some powder using a Kabuki brush ( Flat Topped or Round) and tap off any excess. Then start buffing the powder in circular motion until the foundation is completely blended. Always pick up little product and keep layering it till you get the required coverage.

Concealer: This can be applied with a normal concealer brush by picking up little quantity and patting the concealer till it is completely blended. As always start with little product.

Blush: This can be applied like a regular blush using a good Blush brush.

Mineral Makeup Brushes

Veil: Using a big powder brush pick up Veil and the set the makeup. This is similar to setting regular makeup with a loose powder.

Final Note: Enjoy the goodness of Mineral makeup but be careful to choose the right product. Always go through the ingredients list before investing in any mineral makeup. If the presence of Preservatives, Parabens, Fragrance, Chemical dyes and Mineral Oil is noted in any product, then it’s not a pure mineral cosmetic. Please don’t buy it.
